Ensemble Ex Materia presents Iron draws the hand toward it, a bold new single uniting six leading musicians across Baroque instruments, trombone, prepared turntables, and electronics in an audacious fusion of period performance and contemporary art music.
Composed collaboratively by international artists working independently from a shared source drone and meticulously arranged by the ensemble’s principal arranger, the track creates a vivid dialogue between tradition and experimentation, composition and improvisation.
Delicate textures of Baroque flute and clavichord intertwine with the raw pulse of electronics and prepared turntables, while percussion, sustained drones, and long instrumental lines generate shifting rhythmic undercurrents that reshape the listening experience.
Featuring a special guest appearance by FM Einheit, whose pioneering work in electronics and industrial sound extends the ensemble’s evolving sonic language, Iron draws the hand toward it explores acoustic and electronic worlds that are at once ethereal, unsettling, meditative, and driving, further cementing Ensemble Ex Materia’s reputation as a genre-defying force in contemporary music.
